Our Story

Bridge the Gap, Inc. began with a shared vision—a group of passionate, like-minded women who wanted to make a difference in the lives of individuals with autism and other special abilities. Their goal was simple yet powerful: to provide grants and scholarships that would help individuals and families access the services and supports they needed to thrive. Eventually leadership was passed to Lesley LaLuzerne, whose dedication and heart helped transform that vision into a thriving community.

In 2007 Bridge the Gap, Inc. became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. By 2015, Bridge the Gap had found its permanent home in Shawano, Wisconsin, creating a space where compassion, creativity, and inclusion could flourish.
As the needs of the community grew, so did Bridge the Gap. In 2020, a second center was opened in Green Bay, expanding opportunities for individuals and families across the region. While each center operates uniquely to meet the needs of its local community, both share the same mission—to empower individuals with diverse abilities through connection, inclusion, and opportunity.

Today, Bridge the Gap proudly serves clients from 8 counties and collaborates with 6 school districts throughout northeastern Wisconsin. What began as a small grassroots effort has evolved into a network of support, growth, and belonging—bridging the gap between ability and opportunity for people of all ages and abilities.
